Adou Thiero has one advantage that his freshman teammates at Kentucky do not have — his father played for coach John Calipari.

Adou, Cason Wallace and Chris Livingston are all learning how to adjust to Calipari’s coaching after being on campus for just over a month now.

Almany Thiero played for Calipari at Memphis.

“My dad told me he is a great coach who will do anything for his players,” Thiero said. “If you can help him win, then you’re in the game. So just go do what you can do.”

His dad always gave him some advice on how to stay off Calipari’s bad list.

“He told me, ‘Don’t let him repeat himself,’” Thiero said. “He said if you really love the game, it won’t be a problem. But don’t take anything personal.”

The 6-6 freshman guard learned not to take things personally during his recruitment. Because of an injury and COVID, he was not highly rated or recruited until after his senior season when he averaged 23.3 points per game.

“My dad always told me that things happen for a reason and to just keep working and that’s what I did,” Thiero said. “I wasn’t frustrated.”

  1. It’s embarrassing the way Calipari curses at his players. If he does it on national TV, then you know it is even moreso in practice. Kinda hard not to take it personal when he talks about your mother the way he does.
