Private plane flight a SEC Media Days perk that Kenneth Horsey did not expect

Perhaps my favorite part of listening to quarterback Will Levis and offensive lineman Kenneth Horsey speak at the Centre College Soccer Camp came after they finished talking to nearly 400 participants.

That’s why I joked that the question-and-answer session with the campers was good preparation for this week’s Southeastern Conference Media Days in Atlanta that the two Kentucky players will attend along with coach Mark Stoops and linebacker DeAndre Square.

“We have media prep on Tuesday but this was good prep,” said Levis. “I have a good suit picked out to wear. Got to be looking good. It will be fun to talk to all the other people and see all the other guys on SEC teams that I know and am close with.”

Horsey also said he was looking forward to facing 1,000 media members or more Wednesday when it is UK’s day to talk to TV, radio, print and website media members.

“It is honestly an opportunity I didn’t think would happen for me. I am just going to soak it all in, be in the moment and have a good time representing my school,” Horsey said.

Then Levis got the fun started by asking Horsey if it would be his first time to fly in a private jet?

“There is a private jet? Nice. I have never been on a private jet. I am really excited now,” Horsey said.

Then Levis also had to poke a little fun at his teammate about the suits they would be wearing to Atlanta.

“We went to Dillard’s together and I walked in and I  found the first suit, put it on and it worked great and I walked out. Kenneth is in there trying out eight different suits,” Levis, who led UK to 10 wins last year, said.

Horsey explained the process a little bit differently.

“As soon as they told me I was going to Media Day, I had the suit I wanted planned out for me. I walk in (to Dillard’s) and basically see Will in the suit I wanted already,” Horsey said. “But I still got some nice stuff picked out.”

“Shout out to Slax (UK football director of athletic communications Susan Lax) and Dillard’s for taking care of us. I am very excited. The university has done a lot for me, so I am blessed to give back to them.”

Both players were surprised when I told them how many media members normally attend and how they would probably have three hours or more of interviews.

However, that was like merely lobbing a softball to Horsey to knock out of the park.

“I hope they are all ready to hear about how great the University of Kentucky is and how we are ready to get this thing going,” Horsey said.

  1. I just sincerely hope UK lives up to all the hype and talk they are putting out now about how good they will be. Go show them on the gridiron instead of talking so much. I am also excited to see some SEC football very soon! Go Cats!!!!
