
Caldwell County senior Claire Knoth shot a 7-over-par 79 in the first round of the Cullan Brown Invitational Monday afternoon at Calvert City Golf and Country Club.
Knoth is in eighth place after 18 holes. She shot a 1-over 37 on the back nine of the Calvert City course, which was her first nine holes of the day, but was 6 over on the front side of the course.
Cathryn Brown, who is entering her senior season at Lyon County and is the sister of the tournament’s namesake, leads the girls’ high school division by one shot after 18 holes.
Meanwhile, the college men’s division includes a Caldwell County connection.
Grey Goodwin of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, who is now a golfer at Centre College, is fifth after shooting an 81 in the first round.
Grey is the son of Todd and Chancie Goodwin, both formerly of Princeton and Caldwell County High School grads.
The Cullan Brown Invitational will have its final round Tuesday at Calvert City Golf and Country Club.
