New Kentucky basketball commit Justin Edwards of Philadelphia is not the same type of player as Tyrese Maxey but the two do have one common trait that UK fans should enjoy.

Amy Fadool Kane is a sports anchor/reporter for NBC Sports Philly and hosts Philadelphia 76ers pregame and postgame shows. Maxey, the former UK standout, just finished his second season with the 76ers.

“Justin is pretty good but what I really like about him is when there is a big game, he shows up even  more,” said Kane, a former Lexington TV sports anchor and long-time UK fan. “Nothing about Justin physically or his overall game reminds me of Maxey but his attitude reminds me completely of Maxey.”

“When Maxey was on the biggest stages, he played some of his best basketball. That’s why I was so disappointed when he didn’t get to March Madness (when the 2020 NCAA Tournament was cancelled by COVID). I knew he was going to shine on that big stage.”

Kane said when she watched highlights or live streams of Edwards’ games she noticed the better the competition, the better Edwards performed.

“I like when a player plays his best on the big stage. If you are going to Kentucky, you have got to be able to do that because Kentucky is the biggest stage of all,” Kane said. “He played against some great AAU teams. Locally when he goes against the best teams around here, those games he is scoring in the 20’s routinely on high percentage shooting.”

“He hardly ever shoots under 50 percent from the field and is a really good decision maker but in the biggest games, he just does everything a little bit better and that’s what you have to be able to do at Kentucky.”
