Three area players were among those on a Kentucky travel team that took part in a national championship tournament this week. The Louisville Lady Sluggers 18U Huecker ended up finishing third in the Alliance Fastpitch National Championship in Westfield, Indiana.
The Lady Sluggers ended up going 7-2 in the tournament, with both of their losses coming to the TX Bombers Gold – Smith, which was the second-ranked team in the country.
Christian County’s Pickle Winkler, Lyon County’s Calista Collins, and Madisonville-North Hopkins’ Brenna Sherman were among the players on the roster for the Lady Sluggers.
Winkler hit .286 in the tournament with 5 RBIs. Collins hit .200 with a home run and 5 RBIs. Sherman had three RBIs and three runs scored in the tournament.
The Lady Sluggers had players from Kentucky, Indiana, Kansas, Illinois, South Carolina, and Massachusetts.
