Coach Josh Robins will still have things to get his team to focus on when they get back to practice. But, it was still a solid performance for the Todd County Central Rebels in their first preseason scrimmage Friday night in Elkton. With the defense leading the way the Rebels outscored the Panthers 36-6 in the varsity portion of the scrimmage.

The varsity portion of the scrimmage consisted of four ten-play series, two for each team, and then one ten-play series of red zone plays for each team.

The Rebels stopped Russellville on the Panthers’ first ten-play set, capping it off with Nate Reding returning an interception for a 47-yard touchdown.

Todd Central moved the ball but could not score on its first possession.

The Rebel defense hit paydirt again during the Panthers’ second 10-play possession. This time it was B.J. Farlow picking off a pass and returning it 20 yards to the end zone putting the Rebels up 12-0.

On Todd Central’s next offensive possession, backup quarterback Nate Reding found Farlow across the middle for a 32-yard score.

The two teams then went into goal line mode, which was where the Panthers found the endzone for the only time in varsity action on a two-yard run.

The Rebels proved to be quite efficient in the red zone series, scoring three touchdowns in their ten plays. Two of the scores were on touchdown passes from Gavyn Nolan.

The Rebels will be on the road at East Robertson next Friday as they take on Jo Byrns in their final preseason scrimmage. Todd Central opens the season August 19 at Trigg County.

Coach Josh Robins spoke with YSE after the game.
