Lyon County is looking to bounce back in a big way from a 2-18 season in 2021, and even has its eyes set on the 5th District championship in 2022.

“Our goal for this season is simple, to bring back the district title to Lyon County,” said head coach Joe Guess. “That is the focus of this season for these guys and this coaching staff.”

It’s been five years since the Lyons hoisted the district championship trophy. Trigg County has won four straight titles.

The Lyons picked up a late-season win over the Wildcats 3-2 in overtime last year, but then fell to Trigg 3-0 for the district championship.

Guess will be looking for more offense this season after Lyon scored just 28 goals in 20 matches last season.
“Senior Co-Captain Timothy Taylor and junior Deven Guess are taking leads at the striker positions with senior Captain Walker Suitor, senior Lukas Sperry and junior Colt Bannister controlling the midfield,” said the Lyon skipper.

“Also returning is a defensive back line led by seasoned seniors Captain Nathan Hague, Co-Captain Brandon Ray, Gavin Baker, and a new face at keeper, junior Jackson Crawford.

“Junior Kooper McDowell, sophomore Jonah Reddick, and sophomore Bryan Porter are also returning to make up the midfield.

“Captains will play a big key role this year with their leadership,” Guess noted. “We are leaning heavy on these guys with their skills and talents.”

Senior Lukas Sperry returns at midfield for Lyon.

Some new faces should help bolster the Lyon ranks in 2022.

“Newcomers this season are juniors Zach Radivonyk and Carter Bounds, freshman Traverys Taylor, and the majority of our JV team including a new keeper, sophomore Caden Webber. All of which are a great addition to our team,” said Guess. “Also we have a new assistant coach, Charles Smith, and assistant coach, Pete Travis.”

The Lyons open the regular season at home Tuesday night against Logan County.

“I believe people will be surprised by play from our senior captain Walker Suitor, newcomer Zach Radivonyk and our varsity keeper Jackson Crawford. I look forward to great things from them.

“This group of guys is dedicated and determined. We have a young JV team with talented up and comers. We want to thank the fans for their continued support of our program.”
