Mother Nature may have rained on Lyon County’s scoring parade, but the Lyons still picked up a win in season-opening soccer action Tuesday in Eddyville.

The Lyons scored eight goals in the first 20 minutes against Logan County and were seemingly on their way to a lopsided win.

But play was stopped by lightning in the 26th minute, with Lyon holding an 8-1 lead over the Cougars.

With the delay topping 45 minutes and even more lightning extending the stoppage, Logan County made the decision to head home and forfeit the contest.

Since the match had not reached halftime, it could not be listed as an official game. So Logan’s decision not to continue officially gave Lyon a 1-0 forfeit victory.

Unfortunately for several Lyons, their statistics from the game won’t be official either.

Timothy Stewart scored four goals, including the first two of the match in the 6th and 7th minutes.

Colt Bannister had a pair of goals while Walker Suitor and Deven Guess scored once each for the Lyons.

Logan had broken up the shutout just minutes before officials spotted lightning.

Christian Scarbrough scored from in front off a corner kick from Daniels Dawson.

Lyon will play at home again on Friday when it hosts Graves County.

Logan plays at home on Thursday against Christian County.
