Down 2-0 late in the first half on Saturday at Logan County, it looked like first-year head coach Kyle Bleidt would have to wait at least another game for his first win at the helm of the Trigg County boys’ soccer program.  However, four unanswered goals, all by players finding the back of the net for the first time, gave Bleidt and the Wildcats a historic 4-2 victory.

Bleidt becomes the third Trigg boys’ soccer coach to win in his second contest, joining James Shelton and Terry McNichols.

With starting forward Marlee Reeves out due to injury, the Wildcats’ offense was slow out of the gate, and they trailed 1-0 inside the first seven minutes.  The Cougars’ Daniels Dawson opened the scoring off an assist from Luis Rogers.

The hole got deeper with 13 minutes left in the opening half when a foul in the box gave Logan County a penalty kick.  Andrew Katz made no mistake from the spot, scoring to the right of Trigg goalkeeper Cam McCormick.

With the half winding down, Trigg’s Matthew Reeves began to cause problems with his speed down the right wing, and it was his cross that provided the assist for Alex Hurt to score his first high school goal and cut the deficit in half.

Trigg County started quickly after the halftime break, with Peyton Moore burying a shot to tie the game at 2-2 with less than two minutes played in the second half.

Despite multiple chances for the Wildcats, a draw appeared to be in the cards until a handball in the box handed Trigg County a penalty kick.  Hurt smacked his effort from 12 yards into the top left corner of the goal to put the Wildcats on top for good.

Trigg added an insurance goal with two minutes to play when Will Kline opened his account with a header off a corner kick from Hurt.

The Wildcats outshot the Cougars 10-3, with McCormick making two saves before giving way to Riley West at halftime.

Trigg County will look to make it two wins in a row on Tuesday when they welcome Hopkins County Central to Cadiz.
