Last season, the Christian County Colonels scored just 11 goals all season long. This year, the Colonels are just one goal of equaling that total, and we are just a week and a half into the season.

Tuesday night, the Colonels picked up their second straight win of the 2022 season by going on the road and taking down Muhlenberg County 3-1. The victory marks the first time since September 2019 that Christian County has won two straight matches.

In addition to the offense finding the net three times in the match, the Colonels’ attack must have made the Muhlenberg County keeper think he was in a carnival shooting gallery as Christian County forced him into making 17 saves for the match.

Muhlenberg County took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute of the match and would hold that lead going into halftime. The Colonels then came battling back in the second half.

Ashton Smith tied the game at 1-1 in the 58th minute with an assist from Bryan Linares. Tyler Stokes scored off a goalie deflection on a set piece to take a 2-1 lead in the 64th minute. Bryan Linares dribbled in the final goal in the 80th minute from an assist from Christian Lopez as the Colonels claimed the win.

The Colonels (2-1), who have yet to play a home match this season, will look for their third straight win Thursday evening when they go on the road to Russellville.

The last time Christian County won three straight matches was late in the 2018 season when they beat Fort Campbell, Lyon County, and Caldwell County. Christian County finished that year at 8-12-1.
