If the Todd County Central Lady Rebels can find a way to push through some nagging injuries to key players, the 2022 volleyball season could be one of the most exciting in school history. The Lady Rebels return a solid veteran core and have some young talent coming up, the combination of which has excitement building on the court in Elkton.

When you look at the Lady Rebels for 2022, you have to start with the senior quartet of Lucy Chester, Lanie Bivins, Addileigh Wofford, and Emily Oden. That group is a solid core of talent and experience around which to build a team.

Chester led the Lady Rebels in kills last season with 392. She is a high-flyer at the net with a frighteningly powerful swing that will send some opponents looking for cover when the ball comes off her hand at the net. She also led the team in service aces with 73 last year.

Her counterpart in attacking at the net, Lanie Bivins, is working to rebound off an injury that cost her the end of the season in 2021 and some significant time during the off-season. Bivins was second on the team in kills with 191 and third on the team in service aces with 42.

Now here is where the injury discussion comes into play for the Lady Rebels. Both Chester and Bivins are battling nagging injuries with that battle likely to last through most of the season. If that duo can manage to keep those injuries at “nagging” status, the season holds plenty of promise for Todd County Central.

The Lady Rebels also return one of the best setters in the area in Addileigh Wofford. Wofford finished the 2021 season with 574 assists and figures to have at least that many again this season.

The fourth part of the senior quartet is Emily Oden. Oden was tied for second on the team in blocks last season and will add to the significant returning experience for the Lady Rebels in 2022.

Junior Lynnlee Jones was the top blocker at the net last year for the Lady Rebels and should play an even bigger role this year.

Some other names to watch for as the season gets underway will be Allyssa Wofford, Chloe Willis, Callista Chapman, Ariana Pantiere, and Emily Thomas.

The Lady Rebels get the season rolling Tuesday night with a big district trip to take on Logan County. The match could go a long way towards setting the tone for the season for the Lady Rebels.

Other matches on the schedule, outside of their district contests, include Caldwell County, UHA, Bowling Green, Owensboro Catholic, Christian County, and Graves County.

A big day Saturday, August 20, as the Lady Rebels will play in the 4th Region All A Classic.
