Not that Vince Marrow needs any help with recruiting, but offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello sure gave him a nifty soundbite after Tuesday’s practice that should really resonate well with high school players and their parents.

Scangarello came to UK from the San Francisco 49ers this year along with offensive line coach Zach Yenser. Liam Coen, last year’s coordinator, came to UK from the Los Angeles Ram before returning to the Rams after the 2021 season. And don’t forget running backs coach John Settle and defensive coordinator Brad White have extensive NFL experience.

“Coach wants a pro mentality. If you want to play in a pro system and get coached like a pro, this is where it is done,” Scangarello said Tuesday. “I think it is pretty fun for these guys to embrace it.”

One who apparently has embraced it a lot already is freshman receiver Barion Brown based on what Scangarello said Tuesday.

“Barion Brown, I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but that guy probably will play on Sunday (in the NFL) and you know what, he is learning how it is done right now for when he walks into Green Bay, San Francisco or wherever. That is pretty cool,” Scangarello said.

Pretty cool? It’s way cool because nothing drives recruiting like NFL draft success and Kentucky is having that with apparently a lot more to come if Scangarello is right.

“He (Brown)  embraced that and understands the value of learning a route tree,” Scangarello said. “Those guys have done a great job and I am fired up to coach them and I like where we are headed.”
