It’s amazing what a difference it makes on the soccer field when the ball begins to find the net. After only scoring 11 goals all of last season, the Christian County Colonels have now scored 16 in less than two weeks of the 2022 season. The latest six came Thursday night as the Colonels rolled past Russellville 6-0.
The win was also the Colonels’ second shutout of the season.
Ashton Smith opened the scoring for Christian County in the 35th minute with an assist from Brylle Javier. That goal would be the only one of the half as the Colonels took a 1-0 lead into the break.
The Colonel offense then kicked it into high gear in the second half of play.
Three minutes into the second half Brylle Javier Scored on an assist from Christian Lopez to extend the lead out to 2-0.
One minute later Ashton Smith scored again with an assist from Alex Hale, as the lead grew to 3-0.
Leland Creamer, Bryan Linares, and Christian Lopez also scored coming down the stretch in the second half with assists from Bryan Linares and Zach Eads as the Colonels pulled away to the final six goal margin.
After not winning a match last season, Christian County now improves to 3-1 on the season. The Colonels are back in action Saturday morning when they host Owensboro Catholic.
