Cathryn Brown Scorches Course for Trigg Invitational Win

Cathryn Brown’s start at Saturday’s Trigg County Invitational had people wondering if the course record would survive the day.

The Lyon County senior birdied three of her first seven holes and eagled the par-5 15th hole to drop to 5-under par. She then stepped to the 18th hole at Boots Randolph Golf Course, which had been reduced to a par-3 with construction being done to the fairway. Brown swung her 54-degree wedge and dropped her first career hole-in-one. After a birdie on No. 1, Brown was eight-under at the turn.

She was able to shoot 1-over par over her final nine holes and finish with a 7-under-par 64. Not only did she win the tournament by three shots, but she also established a new course record for women and had the low score for high school golfers on the 50-year-old course. Former Boots Randolph pro Bill Love is believed to have the course record with a 62.

For Brown, Saturday’s tournament was a tier-1 tournament for All-State points and helps in her bid to play in the KGCA All-State Championship next month at the UK Club. The annual event features the top 15 teams and the top 21 individuals not on those teams.

Marshall County’s Katie Roberts finished three shots behind Brown in second place. Daviess County’s Claire Reynolds was third with a 68.

Marshall County took the team title with a 291. Trinity Beth shot a 70, CeCelia Ray shot a 76, and Skylar Waller added a 78 for the Lady Marshals.

Daviess County was second with a team score of 318.
