Caldwell County was 15 minutes away from handing Calloway County a rare loss in their soccer series Monday night at Butler Stadium.

But the Tigers instead settled for the first draw in 34 meetings between the two teams as the Tigers and Lakers played to a 2-2 tie.

After falling behind 1-0 early, Caldwell tied things in the 32nd minute when Grayden Miller ran onto a long pass from Christian Jones and blitzed a shot past the Calloway goalkeeper.

The Lakers had scored in the 4th minute, with Yaman Haija finishing in front of the net.

It was 1-1 at halftime, but Caldwell took the lead on a quick counter in the 57th minute.

This time it was Miller picking up the assist, as his ball on the right side was tracked down by Tyler Linton, who fired a shot past the keeper and into the far corner of the net to put Caldwell up 2-1.

Calloway tied the game in the 66th minute on a goal by Jude Bazzell, and the contest ended 2-2.

The visiting Lakers held a 31-7 advantage in shots. But Caldwell keeper Corbin Nichols recorded 15 saves in the Tiger net.

The start of the match was delayed 30 minutes because of lightning, but only some very light rain fell during the first half of the contest.

The Tigers are now 1-3-2 this season while Calloway is 4-2-1.

The Lakers lead the all-time series 30-3-1.

Caldwell is off until next Tuesday when Mayfield visits Butler Stadium.
