Mayfield made the trip to Butler Stadium in Princeton Tuesday and dealt the Caldwell County Tigers a 5-0 setback in boys’ soccer action.

Mayfield scored two goals just 3 minutes apart in the first half, connecting in the 12th and 15th minutes, to go up 2-0 at halftime.

Caldwell had some scoring chances in the second half that could have helped turn the momentum, but an apparent Tiger goal was nullified by an offside call and a penalty kick was stopped by Mayfield to keep Caldwell off the scoreboard.

The Cardinals went up 3-0 on a goal in the 56th minute, then added a pair of goals in the final 15 minutes to put the contest away.

Felix Sequeira had two of Mayfield’s goals while Raul Sanchez, Adolfo Pastor and Lincoln Suiter each scored once.

Alex Ajanel had five saves for the Cardinals in the shutout.

Mayfield held a 25-13 advantage in shots.

Corbin Nichols had five saves for Caldwell before leaving the contest after being shaken up while making a stop late in the first half. Alexander Sample replaced him in the net and recorded four saves.

Mayfield is now 5-4 while the Tigers are 1-4-2.

Caldwell’s guys next play on Friday, going on the road to face longtime rival Lyon County at Lee S. Jones Park in Eddyville.
