In late August of 2015, the Fort Campbell volleyball team beat Hopkinsville 3-1, but fell by the same score during the season’s final week to begin a twelve-game losing streak against the Lady Tigers.

That slide ended on Thursday in Tiger Gym, when the Lady Falcons overcame a loss in the opening set to top Hoptown 3-2 and pick up their first district victory of the season.

A win seven years in the making looked like it might not be in the cards when the Lady Falcons dropped the first set 21-25.  However, they were quick out of the gate in the second, building a 6-0 lead after a pair of aces by Marlie Fanning.  Abby Roby finished the set off with a kill to tie the match 1-1.

With the third set tied 13-13, Hopkinsville’s Carolina Chaudoin served for eight points of a 12-1 run to put the Lady Tigers in control 2-1.

But any Hoptown momentum evaporated when the Lady Falcons scored the first ten points of the fourth set, including six aces for Fanning.

The Lady Tigers got as close as seven points after a kill by Addyson Fortin, but Fort Campbell cruised to a 25-11 victory to set up a decisive fifth set.

The set was tied three times before Hopkinsville built a 9-5 edge on a pair of aces by Iyanna Quarles and a kill at the net for Fortin.  After a Fort Campbell timeout, the Lady Falcons were back even after two kills by Anika Weisbrich to force the Lady Tigers to call time.

Fanning served up three straight aces out of the break, and after Hoptown got two points back, an errant Lady Tiger serve gave the Lady Falcons a 15-13 victory.

Fort Campbell snapped a five-game skid to improve to 3-6 overall and hand Hopkinsville a sixth-straight defeat to leave the Lady Tigers at 1-6.
