Sophomore forward Marlee Reeves found the back of the net twice, and freshman goalkeeper Cam McCormick saved a penalty kick to help the Trigg County boys’ soccer team to a 2-0 win over Logan County on Saturday.

The shutout is the first of the season for the Wildcats, and it snaps a nine-game run without a victory.  Trigg is now 2-9-1 ahead of a 5th-District meeting with Lyon County on Tuesday.

The Wildcats trailed 2-0 in an eventual 4-2 over Logan earlier this season, and it looked like they might find themselves behind again as the Cougars were in control for the first ten minutes.

However, Trigg grew into the game and went close to scoring on a header by Peyton Moore off a corner kick in the 15th minute.

The breakthrough came with seven minutes left in the first half when midfielder Alex Hurt played in Reeves on the right side.  Reeves smashed his right-footed shot into the far side netting from a tight angle to send the Wildcats into the break with a 1-0 lead.

Reeves completed his brace with thirteen minutes played in the second half, again getting on the end of a Hurt through ball and beating the Logan goalkeeper to double the margin.

The Cougars were given a lifeline with a penalty kick with eight minutes to play, but Cam McCormick guessed correctly and made the save low to his left to preserve the shutout.

Reeves’ two goals doubled his season total, and Hurt now has five assists to go with five goals, both team highs.
