Lady Wildcats Wrap Up Top Seed for District Tourney

Trigg County’s 6-2 road win at Crittenden County Tuesday gives them the number one seed in next month’s girls’ district soccer tournament and an automatic berth in the region tournament.

It’s the first time Trigg has been the top seed since 2019. The last time they won the district title as the top seed was in 2017.

Leiah Hite scored 12 seconds into the match — one of the fastest goals in program history. It was the first of three straight for the freshman who notched her first career hat trick. Her sister Lania assisted on the first two, and Alyssa Southwood had a helper with four minutes left in the half.

But as they have shown all season, Crittenden County is an improved team — an improved program and they won’t go away quietly. A goal in the first minute of the second half and a second goal 16 minutes later brought the Lady Rockets to within 3-2.

Lania Hite provided the insurance goal with 16 minutes left to put Trigg ahead 4-2. Olivia Noffsinger and Lania Hite would add a pair of goals in the final 11 minutes for the final four-goal margin.

For Leiah Hite, it was the freshman’s first career hat trick. For Lania Hite, her two goals give her 71 for her career. She is one goal away from tying Hannah Futrell for second-most in program history.

For the Lady Wildcat defense, it was the eighth time in 11 games they had allowed two goals or less. For Sarah Sink, her goals against average remains at 1.6 — one of the lowest ever for a Lady Wildcat goalie.

Trigg County improved to 31-8 all-time against Crittenden County and has won 15 straight in the series.

Trigg County, now 9-2, was scheduled to host Webster County Thursday but that game has been canceled. The Lady Wildcats will host Lyon County next Tuesday.

Crittenden County is 5-4-1 as they continue their quest for the program’s first winning season since 2006.
