With a huge match coming up on Saturday in the 3rd and 4th Region All ‘A’ Sectional at Owensboro Catholic, the Todd County Central boys’ soccer team avoided a letdown with a 5-2 victory over hosts Fort Campbell on Thursday.

The Rebels bounced back from a district loss to Franklin-Simpson to improve to 13-1-1.  They played Owensboro Catholic to a 1-1 draw earlier this season.

If the Rebels were looking ahead, it didn’t show early on when Cameron Wheelock cleaned up a shot off the post for a 1-0 lead with only two minutes played.

Less than a minute later, Fort Campbell’s Dylan Linnemeier saw his shot from distance skim the crossbar and go over.  That would be the last time the Falcons threatened over the first forty minutes.

Chris Salazar buried a free kick in the 23rd minute, and a short time later, John Riley Service converted a penalty kick after Tanner Henderson drew a foul in the box.

Two goals inside the final five minutes capped the Rebel scoring.  Ivan Lopez curled in a shot at the far post after Fort Campbell couldn’t clear, and Henderson rolled in a shot after being played in by Brett Harris.

Aidan Blaszkowski pulled a couple of goals back for the Falcons in the 2nd half.  In the 53rd minute, he headed in off a free kick from John Montalvo, and he added another header off a corner kick from Robert Klotz with just over five minutes left to play.

Goalkeeper Jonah Rager made five saves in goal for the Rebels.  Dominic Medrano stopped ten shots for the Falcons.

Fort Campbell drops its second straight to slip to 2-5.  The Falcons will celebrate Senior Night when Trigg County visits on Tuesday.
