The sun still rises in the east, dogs still chase cats, and Marshall County’s girls are still the 1st Region golf champions.

The Lady Marshals rolled to the team title for the sixth-straight year on Monday at the 1st Region golf tournament at the Country Club of Paducah.

Marshall moves on looking for its third-straight state championship.

Freshman Trinity Beth claimed medalist honors with the only score that was under par on the day at the difficult Paducah course. Her 1-under 71 was four shots better than runner-up Cathryn Brown of Lyon County.

Beth’s Marshall teammate Katie Roberts was third with a 76.

It’s the second individual regional championship for Beth, who won as a seventh grader two years ago. Brown claimed medalist last season.

The Lady Marshals’ team score of 315 was 64 shots better than runner-up Murray.

Marshall’s Skylar Waller tied for fifth with a 79.

CeCelia Ray carded an 89 and Elise Riley 93 for the Lady Marshals.

Ellie Roof of Paducah St. Mary was fourth individually with a 78.

Three players finished at 79. Waller tied with McCracken County’s Sophie Hollowell and Ballard Memorial’s Madison Glisson.

Addie Sullivan of Mayfield took eighth with an 88.

In all, 20 of the 32 golfers in Monday’s regional will advance to the KHSAA State Golf First Round at Owensboro Country Club next Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Under the new format approved by the KHSAA this season, the top two teams in the region and the next 10 best scores move on to the next round.

Owensboro will host golfers from Regions 1-4 in what is an extra round of the state tourney.

Thirty golfers from each of three State First Round sites will advance to the State Final Rounds in Bowling Green for a total of 90 participants — the top three teams and next 15 individuals from each of the first-round sites.
