You will want to mark this date down on your calendars. The attention this game will get across the state, and possibly across the country will be pretty significant, as one of the top Kentucky basketball recruits in the Class of 2023 will square off against one of the top Kentucky basketball recruits in the Class of 2024.

The date is January 7 and the place is Lexington Catholic School. According to Lyon County’s schedule on the KHSAA site, the Lyons will take part in the White, Greer, & Maggard Holiday Classic and they will match up against the North Laurel Jaguars.

The game will spotlight UK commit Reed Sheppard, who is a senior at North Laurel, and Lyon County junior Travis Perry, who is among the top prospects in the state and likely the leading candidate for the state’s Mr. Basketball award in 2024. Perry has been offered by UK and a long list of Power 5 conference schools.

Both teams reached the 2022 Sweet Sixteen, with Lyon County advancing to the quarterfinals, while North Laurel lost their opening round game to Pikeville.

Sheppard averaged 25.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game last year for the Jaguars. Perry averaged 27.5 points and 5.7 rebounds a contest for the Lyons.

With Sheppard headed for UK, and Perry a highly-prized recruit, figures the house will be backed for this one, which could be one of the biggest regular season games of the 2022-2023 season in the state.
