After a narrow 1-0 loss to Todd County Central last time out, the University Heights Academy boys’ soccer team bounced back to roll past visiting Muhlenberg County on Saturday for the Blazers’ fourth win in their last five matches.

UHA improved to 9-6 heading into the last week of the regular season and will look to finish off a sweep of 8th-District opposition when Christian County visits Givens Field on Tuesday.

The Blazers nearly started the scoring on a long ball to a streaking Matthew Hauret off the opening kickoff, but they only had to wait three minutes for Preston Thomas to score from an almost impossible angle to get things going.

With Muhlenberg slow out of the gate, UHA doubled the lead just two minutes later when Ethan Hale smacked home a half-volley from close range after a loose ball in the box.

Lincoln Hauret made it 3-0 off an assist from Thomas, but the Mustangs pulled a goal back on a penalty kick by Isaac Whitaker with just over three minutes left in the half.

It was all Blazers after the break as they outshot the Mustangs 13-2 over the final forty minutes.  Thomas pushed the lead to 4-1 with a goal on a through ball from Matthew Hauret, and Hauret scored from just outside the box after a square ball from Ethan Hale for a four-goal margin with twenty minutes to play.

While the Mustangs seemed to wilt in the heat, the Blazers kept their foot on the gas for two more goals in the final 15 minutes.  Logan Miller finished off Matthew Hauret’s second assist, and Nic Luckey scored his first goal of the season off a pass from Thomas.

UHA goalkeeper Quinton Quarles was only called on to make four saves to earn the win.  The Blazers finished with 23 shots on goal.
