The University Heights Academy girls’ soccer team secured the 8th District’s top seed with a 1-0 victory over Christian County on Saturday, with all three wins over district competition this season coming by a single goal.

The Lady Blazers earned their third shutout to improve to 5-5-1 overall.  The Lady Colonels slipped to 2-11-1, 0-2 in district play, with a matchup with Fort Campbell still to come.

The first twenty minutes on Saturday were played in the Christian County half, but neither team registered a shot on goal until UHA’s Audrey Grise had her effort from the right side of the box saved by goalkeeper Olivia Fentress.

In the 29th minute, Fentress came up big with a 1v1 stop on UHA’s Emma Dill to keep the game scoreless, and the teams were tied at halftime.

The Lady Blazers started quickly after the break, taking the lead when Grise found the back of the net from close range after a ball into the box.

Less than a minute later, Skyler Cantrell nearly doubled the advantage, but her shot from six yards out sailed over the crossbar.

The Lady Colonels had one more chance in the 69th minute to even the match and force overtime, but UHA goalkeeper Lucy Wilkins came out to take the ball off the foot of Alayah Lander and preserve the shutout.

Wilkins made three saves to earn the win for the Lady Blazers.  Fentress made 11 stops in goal for the Lady Colonels.

UHA begins the last week of the regular season with a visit from Madisonville-North Hopkins on Monday.

Christian County has Fort Campbell at the Stadium of Champions on Monday before heading to Apollo on Thursday in the season finale.
