Colton Browning’s hat trick helped Hopkins County Central get out off Eddyville with a 5-2 victory over Lyon County in soccer action on Monday.

Browning scored in the 44th and 55th minutes to help the visiting Storm turn a 1-0 halftime lead into a 3-0 margin.

Timothy Stewart got Lyon on the scoreboard in the 56th minute when he beat a pair of Storm defenders to a loose ball in the box and sent a shot into the net.

But Browning countered in the 62nd minute when he pulled the trigger from long range. The shot deflected off a Lyon defender and kicked up over Lyon goalkeeper Jackson Crawford and into the net. That put the Storm up 4-1.

Lyon (5-15) tried to get back in the match when Colt Bannister dribbled through Storm defenders in the box and passed the ball into the back of the net from in close. That cut the gap to 4-2 in the 65th minute.

However, Hopkins Central (8-9) answered in the 72nd minute when Carson Mackey scored in close with help from Hayden Fox to help put the game away at 5-2.

The Storm’s Ryley Vincent scored the only goal of the first half when he connected from in front in the 7th minute.

Bannister just missed tying things in the 40th minute when his blast from out front hit the bottom portion of the crossbar, ricocheted down and stayed out of the net.

Hopkins Central outshot Lyon 17-7 in the first half, but the second half was more even in that department, with the Storm finishing the night with a 30-19 advantage in shots.

Crawford made 11 saves in the Lyon net.

The Storm defeated the Lyons 6-1 earlier this month in Mortons Gap.

Lyon County will host Mayfield for Senior Night on Tuesday.

Hopkins Central goes to Hopkinsville on Tuesday.
