Hopkinsville High School sophomore Cate Blane will make her third consecutive appearance at the girls’ state golf tournament in Bowling Green after finishing among the top 15 qualifiers at Tuesday’s first round in Owensboro.

Blane improved five shots after the turn and finished with a 13 over par 85. Blane shot a 45 on her first nine holes but three birdies after the turn helped soothe her up and down round, and she came in with a 40.

Under the new guidelines adopted by the KHSAA this year, Blane, who finished tied for fourth at the region tournament, had to be among the top 15 golfers in the first round to advance to Bowling Green.

Blane made the cut in her previous two visits to the state tournament and will be guaranteed two rounds under the new format when tournament play begins on Friday, October 7 at the Bowling Green Country Club.

Her Hopkinsville High teammate Anna Fort was not as fortunate. The Lady Tiger junior was seeking a return to the state tournament in Bowling Green but fell short Tuesday after shooting a 97.
