Karra Tucker had a few more squares on her scorecard than she would’ve liked, but the Madisonville-North Hopkins junior shot a four over par 76 Tuesday at the first round of the state golf tournament and will advance to next week‘s final rounds at the Bowling Green Country Club.

Tucker’s score was good for fourth place, four shots behind the day’s winner Trinity Beth of Marshall County.

Tucker began her day with birdies on three of the first four holes but three bogeys on the next four holes and a double bogey on nine saw her go out with a 39.

The Region Two champion righted the ship on the back nine where she made par on the first four holes and birdied number 14. She finished with a 37 on the back nine and a 76 for the round.

Tucker now advances to the final rounds of the state tournament next week at the Bowling Green Country Club. It will be her fourth appearance at the state tournament. After a 53rd place finish in 2020, she improved to 25th last year. The girls’ state tournament will begin play on Friday, October 7.
