Ella Geary’s goal in the final 15 minutes of the match turned out to be the difference for the Crittenden County Lady Rockets Thursday night. The freshman found the net at the 67:20 mark for the Lady Rockets leading them to a 3-2 win over the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers at the Stadium of Champions.

Geary’s score was the only goal for either team in the second half of play.

Early on it looked as if it might be the Lady Tigers’ night. Morgan Woosley found the net just two minutes into the match as Hoptown took an early 1-0 lead.

But then the flow of the game felt like it changed. The Lady Rockets turned up their offensive pressure and controlled play for much of the rest of the night.

Taylor Guess placed a shot just over the reach of Hopkinsville goalie Kendall Mayes at the 14:00 mark to even things up at 1-1. Elizabeth Campbell took the same approach 11 minutes later to give the Lady Rockets the lead for the first time at 2-1.

Taryn Underwood took a pass and managed to slide a shot behind Crittenden goalie Hannah Long in the final minute of the half to send the match into the break knotted up at 2-2.

The two defenses took over coming out of the break until Ella Geary’s match-winning shot.

Hopkinsville finishes the regular season 3-11-2. They begin 8th District tournament play next week at Fort Campbell.

Crittenden County improves to 10-4-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight. They will take on Lyon County in the 5th District tournament Monday night at the Trigg County Recreation Complex.
