It had been the call Easton McGee has been waiting for for a long time. According to social media posts from family members, McGee got the call up to the major leagues from the Tampa Bay Rays late Wednesday night.

McGee has been pitching for the Rays’ Triple-A affiliate the Durham Bulls.

Family members say McGee is set to join the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday night in Cleveland.

So far this season, McGee is 6-9 with an ERA of 5.43. He has 82 strikeouts in 107 2/3-innings. He has appeared in 27 games for the Bulls, starting in 22 of those.

After spending two seasons in rookie ball, McGee advanced through low-level Class A baseball in New York and then pitched for the Bowling Green Hot Rods in 2019.

After posting a 7-5 record with 95 strikeouts in 125 innings, McGee was ready to make the jump up a level. Then COVID-19 hit and shut down the 2020 season.

McGee was able to wade his way through the shutdown and advanced to the roster of the Class Double-A Montgomery Biscuits in 2021. He was called up to Durham late in the 2021 season.
