Caldwell County’s girls will carry an 11-4-3 record into postseason play after turning back Lyon County 4-1 Thursday night in Princeton.

Mariah Merritt had two goals and Keegan Miller recorded four assists as the Lady Tigers won on Senior Night at Butler Stadium.

Caldwell grabbed the lead early with two goals in the match’s first 6 minutes.

Aliya Towns found the net first, then Merritt tallied her first goal to put the Lady Tigers up 2-0.

That’s where the score stayed until early in the second half when Merritt struck again.

Tallie Branch made it 4-0 in the 52nd minute. Branch used a back heel kick from in front to punch the ball into the net following a corner kick.

Lyon (8-11) broke up the shutout when Alice Smith scored an unassisted tally from long range.

Caldwell outshot the Lady Lyons 23-8.

Maddie Russell made 16 saves in the Lyon net while Rachel McClung had three stops for Caldwell.

Both teams now turn their attention to district tournament play on Monday.

Caldwell will host the 7th District tournament, with the Lady Tigers facing Hopkins County Central at 5:30.

Lyon will face Crittenden County in the 5th District tournament at Trigg County at 5:30.
