What a great day in St. Augustine Beach W/ Photos

Getting to watch the Jaguars play with Jags fans, from left, Angel Baer, Nathan Baer, Donnie Walker and Carol Walker was a lot of fun.

What a great day at St. Augustine Beach on Sunday. It started with about a 3-mile walk on the beach yesterday morning where I found some unusually large shells and saw a huge rock/stone far different from anything I have ever seen on any beach.

After 3 hours on Sunday Morning Sports TALK, it was off to Dick’s Wing and Grill to meet up with Angel Baer, her husband Nathan, and UK fan Donnie Walker and his wife Carol to watch the Jaguars play at Philadelphia. After a great 14-0 start, the Jags lost but what fun watching Josh Allen and Luke Fortner play while talking UK sports with Shively, KY native Donnie. Angel and Nathan I met when they were in Kentucky this summer running a 5K at Keeneland.

On the way back, I had connected with 1992 Boyle County graduate Chelsea Schneider Freeman who is now a realtor here in St. Augustine. She gave me an inside look at Marsh Creek Country Club, a gorgeous course just off the highway I had not even seen. Warning: Lots of marshes on the course. Chelsea played tennis at Boyle and her brother played football for the Rebels.

I also touched base with Candace Garrison Coad, who let us shelter with her and her husband, Glenn, during the hurricane. She’s also a Boyle County native and had friends invite her to join them in their suite three weeks ago when UK beat Florida — just like the Cats did in 2018 when they invited her. But they invited her back to see the Gators play Sunday — game was pushed back a day due to hurricane — and she even wore a Florida shirt to the game this time.

Ended the day with another hour or so walking the beach, watching the sunset and talking to anyone who would chat — and almost everyone here did.

Maybe not quite like a day in heaven but pretty darn good.

  1. Glad you all had as much fun as we did. Great pictures. Thanks, Larry for the contact info. We are leaving tomorrow morning 8/7 for a whirlwind trip to Ky. Will see the UK/South Carolina football, Louisville softball/ Ole Miss. volleyball, Keenland, and Miss. State football all in next 8 days. Go Cats.
