Lyons Break Through to Win District Soccer Title

10-5-lyon

Lyon County got a strong effort from its defense and beat Trigg County 2-1 Tuesday to clinch its first district soccer title in five years.

The Lyons held Trigg County to four shots in the first half although both teams had trouble getting good looks in the first 40 minutes.

Timothy Taylor’s goal 14 minutes in was the 50th of his career and gave the Lyons an early 1-0 lead.

Colt Bannister put the Lyons up 2-0 in the 30th minute.

The Wildcats were able to get on the board in the 55th minute when Marlee Reeves got through the Lyon defense and scored his sixth goal of the season. However, it was the last good look the Wildcats got.

Taylor would add the insurance goal with nine minutes left that would assure the Lyons of the win and the district title.

The win was Lyon’s third straight over Trigg, something they had not accomplished since 2006.

Both Trigg County (2-18-1) and Lyon County (6-16) will advance to next week’s region soccer tournament at Henderson County.
