With 15 minutes to play, Caldwell County’s girls were tied with Madisonville-North Hopkins 2-2 in the championship game of the 7th District tournament Thursday night at Butler Stadium in Princeton.

But the Lady Maroons (9-8-1) eventually wore down the Lady Tigers, scoring goals in the 66th, 68th, 69th and 72nd minutes to pull away for a 6-2 victory.

It’s the fifth straight district title for Madisonville.

The Lady Maroons grabbed an early 1-0 lead when Kailey Barber found an opening in the defense and scored from in close in the 4th minute.

But Caldwell (12-5-3) weathered several offensive attacks from the Lady Maroons in the first 20 minutes, then connected twice in the 29th and 34th minutes to take the lead.

Harper Ritchey had the first goal while Tallie Branch picked up the second. Mariah Merritt had the assist on both goals.

Madisonville took some of the momentum back in the 37th minute when Madison Hill scored the first of her two goals in the contest, and the teams were tied 2-2 at halftime.

That’s where the score stayed until the 66th minute.

Just moments earlier, Caldwell wanted a hand-ball call on Madisonville in the box that would have set up a Lady Tiger penalty kick.

Instead, the teams played on, and the Lady Maroons connected at the other end of the field when Kennedy Justice found the net, sending a shot from the left side all the way into the far side of the goal.

That opened the flood gate for Madisonville, which blew open the game with four goals in a 7-minute stretch.

Hill finished with two goals and two assists for the Lady Maroons while Barber also found the net twice.
Lillie Carman had a goal and two assists while Justice had the one goal and an assist.

Madisonville finished the night with a 19-9 advantage in shots.

Kaytee Parish recorded two saves for the Lady Maroons.

Rachel McClung had nine stops in the Caldwell net.

Both teams advance to the 2nd Region tournament next week. The girls regional will be played at the Stadium of Champions in Hopkinsville.
