The Centre College volleyball program made history Saturday afternoon as they knocked off the no. 5 Berry Vikings in a five-set thriller. It was the highest-ranked team Centre has ever beaten in volleyball and snapped a 13-match winning streak for Berry and a conference winning streak for the Vikings that stretched all the way back to September of 2021.
Centre took the first three points of the contest and gradually extended the lead to 16-11. Berry would come back to take the lead, but Centre rebounded to claim the opening set 25-23. The second set was a close one all the way, with neither team leading by more than four at any point. Centre would take the set 26-24 to go up two sets to none.
Berry came back to take the third and fourth sets to even the match at two sets each.
Berry jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fifth set. Centre then chipped away at the lead and trailed 11-9 before saving their best for last. Centre would score the final six points to take the set 15-11 and the match three sets to two.
It was a good day for former UHA Lady Blazer Lily Hendricks. She finished the match with 13 digs, one service ace, and one assist.
For the season, Hendricks has 134 digs and 20 service aces for Centre, who stands at 15-5 after the win over Berry.
