It was not the ending the Trigg County Lady Wildcats would have preferred to their historic season, but it does not diminish in the least what the team accomplished during the 2022 soccer season. Henderson County used a six-minute blitz in the first half to take control of the regional championship match against the Lady Wildcats on the way to a 6-0 win.

Trigg County was appearing in the first girls’ regional championship contest in program history, while the Lady Colonels won their second straight title, and seventh in the past eight seasons.

The match was scoreless until the 13:15 mark when Henderson’s Taylor Dunn managed to squeeze a shot just over the outstretched arms of Trigg goalie Sarah Sink to give Henderson County a 1-0 lead.

Trigg would have a chance to draw even just a minute later when a foul was called on Henderson County just outside the box. Henderson keeper Chloe Honeycutt made a nice play on the direct kick from Olivia Noffsinger to keep the score at 1-0 and that seemed to ignite the blitz that would end up being the decisive stretch of the match.

Henderson extended the lead to 2-0 when Ashton Lynam scored from the left side at 16:15. Moments later, Kacee Butler scored from right in front of the goal to push the lead to 3-0.

The blitz capped off at 19:00 when Lynam scored a shot from the left side that Trigg keeper Sarah Sink got her hands on but could not quite pull in, and the Henderson lead was at 4-0. Lynam scored again at the 28:40 mark on a direct kick from just outside the box giving the Lady Colonels a 5-0 lead that they would take into the break.

Shots on goal told the story of the first half, as Henderson County outshot Trigg County 22-6.

The Trigg County defense limited Henderson County to one goal in the second half of play. The goal came on a penalty kick from Kacee Butler after the Lady Wildcats were called for a handball in the box.

The final shot on goal differential ended up 44 t0 9 in favor of Henderson County.

Trigg goalie Sarah Sink had a big night, keeping the margin from getting any bigger. Sink made several highlight reel stops against the Lady Colonel attack, which kept pushing forward from the beginning of the match to the final whistle.

The Lady Wildcats had three good looks at the net on direct kicks, but could not find a way to get their shots past All-Region goalie Chloe Honeycutt.

Trigg County ends its season at 16-3-1. The wins are the most in a single season in the history of the program.

Henderson County improves to 16-6-1. The Lady Colonels will move on to take on the 4th Region winner in the state soccer tournament.
