Blaine Alexander played soccer at Trigg County High School from 2009-12, leading the program to three 5th-District titles, two undefeated regular seasons, and two 2nd Region runner-up finishes.

On Saturday, he joined John Ladd, Jimmy Mathis, Margaret Hendrix, and the 1986 boys’ state champion cross country team in the 11th class to be inducted into the Trigg County High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

High school coaches in any sport constantly search for players they can build around, particularly coaches looking to grow their program or take it to heights not previously reached.

If a coach could assemble that student-athlete in a lab, sprinkling in qualities like athleticism, strength, leadership, responsibility, intelligence, and talent, that creation would closely resemble Blaine Alexander during his time at Trigg County High School.

Blaine arrived at a crossroads for the Trigg County boys’ soccer program, shouldering the load to transition from a group of players that brought the program to relevance to classes responsible for a decade of sustained success at the district and regional levels.

He checked all the boxes, giving Trigg boys’ soccer one of its first true stars while setting an example in the classroom and demanding the best of himself, his teammates, and his coaches.

Blaine established himself as one of the region’s top midfielders right from the start, posting 11 goals and six assists as a freshman. Fifteen goals and ten assists followed in a sophomore campaign that yielded a 21-1-1 mark and a region runner-up showing, the program’s best-ever record.

He exploded for a phenomenal 37 goals and 20 assists as a junior before striking 27 times, providing 36 assists, and reaching another region title match as a senior.

Blaine was named to the All-5th District and the All-2nd Region teams all four seasons and was selected Region Player of the Year and All-State in 2012.

His 90 career goals are a program record, as are his 72 assists, with that total doubling the previous record. Blaine’s 2011 goal haul is the most prolific in program history, and his 36 assists as a senior also top the list.

He took part in 58 wins in four seasons, with only 18 losses and ten draws, including three 5th-District titles and a 10-1 record against Lyon County.

Blaine was selected as a Governor’s Scholar, and after graduation, he accepted academic and athletic scholarships to Georgetown College. He was a four-year starter for the Tigers and captained the team as a senior. He was recognized as an NAIA Academic All-American three times and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in biology.
