Logan County’s impressive streak of district championships will continue for at least one more season. The Lady Cougars took control of their 13th District volleyball championship match against the Todd County Central Lady Rebels early in the match and never let their foot off the gas pedal as they roared to a straight set win.

Logan County has won every 13th District championship since 2010. Prior to that, the Lady Cougars won the 10th District championship in 2003 and 2004, and then followed that with five straight 11th District titles.

Tuesday night’s title match began with the two teams trading runs in the opening set. Logan County looked to have the set in hand as they took a 16-12 lead. With Lanie Bivins at the serve, the Lady Rebels battled back to tie the set at 16-16. Logan County then closed out the set with a 9-1 run to claim a 25-17 win and go up one set to none in the match.

Logan County sophomore standout Aubrey Sears was at her best in the opening set. Sears finished the set with seven kills, three of them coming in the deciding run to close out the set. Lanie Bivins had two kills and two service aces to lead the Lady Rebels in the set.

The momentum from that late-set rally appeared to stay on the Logan County sideline for the rest of the night.

The two teams again traded runs to open the second set. Then, with the score tied at 8-8, the Lady Cougars hit the Lady Rebels with an 8-1 run to take a 16-9 lead. Todd Central was not able to recover from the run
Logan County went on to claim the set 25-15 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Aubrey Sears had another big set for Logan with four kills. Sears also had help from Caroline Kelley and Whitney Christian. Addileigh Wofford, Lucy Chester, and Lanie Bivins had two kills each for the Lady Rebels. Bivins added two more service aces to her total.

For a brief moment at the beginning of the third set it looked as if the Lady Rebels were ready to rebound and extend the match for a bit longer. Todd Central bolted out to a 4-2 lead behind the play of Chester and Wofford. Logan County used a 5-0 run to get to a 7-4 lead and then, with the score at 11-9, the Lady Cougars effectively sealed the championship with a 7-0 run to go up 18-9. Logan County would go on to close out the match by winning the set 25-14.

Sears added for more kills in the set for Logan County, but it was the play of Christian and Kelley that dominated the final set.

Logan County improves to 29-8 with the win. Todd Central drops to 24-11.

Both teams will advance to the 4th Region tournament, which will be played next week at South Warren High School.
