Trigg’s Volleyball Season Ends in Four-Set District Loss

Trigg County’s volleyball season ended Tuesday at the 5th District Tournament, but the Lady Wildcats did not go down silently.

Livingston Central outed Trigg from the postseason with a 25-19, 25-12, 21-25, 25-10 win in the semifinals at Crittenden County’s Rocket Arena.

Trigg held leads in the first two sets. Down 11-7 in the first set, Trigg rallied behind a pair of aces from Abigail Johnson to grab a 14-12 lead. Trigg pushed it to 16-13 before Livingston tied it at 17. The Lady Cardinals went on a decisive 6-1 run with Bailey Guill stoking the burst with a pair of kills.

The second set featured five ties and three lead changes before Livingston broke an 8-8 tie with seven straight points. Trigg wouldn’t get any closer.

Trigg was able to squeak out a win in the third set that featured 13 ties and seven lead changes.  The Lady Wildcats closed the set with a 5-1 run with kills from Lilian McKelvey and Ava Scheer.

Livingston Central made sure there would be no drama in the fourth set, jumping out to a 10-1 lead and never letting Trigg get closer than six points. Victoria Joiner had a big final set for Livingston with two kills and three aces.

Guill finished with nine kills to lead Livingston Central, while Joiner added five kills and four aces. Brookelyn Rupcke had six kills and three aces as Livingston recorded 15 aces but 12 serving errors in the match.

Mckelvey had five kills and two aces for Trigg County. Scheer added four kills and three aces, while Johnson had three kills. Trigg recorded 12 aces and 10 serving errors.

The Lady Wildcats fell victim once again to the same offensive problems that have plagued them for most of the season. Trigg had 19 attack errors and 14 set errors in the match.

The win is Livingston Central’s fifth straight over the Lady Wildcats. For Trigg County, its season ends with a 1-32 record, establishing a new mark for losses in a season. Despite a defection of players throughout the season, Trigg County is slated to return five starters next season.
