Bowling Green lived up to its No. 3 ranking in Class 5A, running out to a 36-0 lead at halftime on the way to a 50-7 victory over Christian County Friday night at the Stadium of Champions in Hopkinsville.

Trevy Barber scored three touchdowns and Deuce Bailey passed for three scores for the Purples, who finished up a perfect regular-season run through the 5A 2nd District.

Bowling Green (8-1 overall, 3-0 district) built a 21-0 lead after 12 minutes on Friday.

Javen Huddleston put up the first two scores of the game on 9- and 2-yard runs.

Barber’s first touchdown came on a 39-yard pass from Bailey with just 8 seconds left in the opening period.

Christian (2-7, 0-3) put together its best drive early in the second quarter, driving inside the Bowling Green 10. However, the drive stalled, then a blocked field goal led to a big play from the Purple offense.

Bailey was forced to scramble, but heaved a deep pass downfield from right in front of the Colonels’ sideline. Barber hauled it in, then scampered into the end zone to complete an 88-yard scoring play. That came with 8:59 left in the first half and helped extend the margin to 28-0.

The Colonels again moved the ball, but turned it over on downs at the 19 with 2:37 remaining in the second quarter after reaching the red zone.

Bowling Green then hit another big play when Bailey found Easton Barlow near the sideline. Barlow slipped a tackle, then outraced the Christian defense to the end zone on the final play of the first half. That play covered 42 yards.

Bailey threw to Christopher Sweeney for two, pushing the margin to 36-0 at halftime and setting up a running clock for the second half.

Barber returned the opening kickoff of the second half 85 yards for another Bowling Green score. That made it 43-0.

The Colonels broke up the shutout when Jordan Miles got loose for a 59-yard scoring run with 9:44 left in the game. The Christian quarterback found an opening in the middle of the field, bolted to the right sideline, then outran the Bowling Green defense down the field for the score. Mason Malone kicked the extra point to make it 43-7.

Bowling Green added one more touchdown on a short run with just 1:16 left in the game to account for the final score.

Miles finished with 102 yards rushing on 11 carries to lead Christian County.

The Colonels will host McCracken County for Senior Night next Friday before going to Owensboro in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs in two weeks.

Bowling Green visits St. Xavier in Louisville next week before hosting Ohio County in the first week of the playoffs.
