University Heights sophomore Cole Glover will return to next week’s state cross country championships at Bourbon County after finishing 3rd at Saturday’s Region 1 1A meet at Marshall County.

Glover ran a 17:32 to finish 2nd as a freshman but had to settle for 3rd on Saturday with a time of 18:09.  Murray 8th-grader Guervens Binfield-Smith took the top spot with a 17:27, followed by Fort Campbell’s William Lubas in 2nd.

The Blazers finished 3rd with an average time of 19:49, booking their spot at the state meet.  Seniors Trey Wallace and Cam Brown finished 9th and 10th with times of 19:11 and 19:12.  Ryan Luckey was 22nd with a 20:28, Jude Finch ran a 22:04 to finish 37th, and Nic Luckey was 59th with a 25:34.

Glover heads to the state meet looking to improve on last season’s 50th-place showing.  He ran a 19:11 on the course at Bourbon County, almost two minutes slower than his runner-up finish in last year’s region meet.
