SPOTLIGHT ATHLETE – Zach Moss

Hopkinsville junior quarterback Zach Moss and the Tiger offense look to be hitting their stride at the right time, outscoring their opponents 79-6 over a two-game win streak as they prepare to wrap up the regular season at Paducah Tilghman.

After tossing three touchdown passes in last week’s 30-6 victory over Hopkins County Central, Moss has now thrown for 11 TDs with 71 completions for 1,095 yards in his first season as the starter.  A two-time 4A All-WKC pick as a kicker/punter, he’s connected on 18 of 22 extra-point attempts and made his only field goal try of the season.

While Moss has excelled on the gridiron, he may be better known for his exploits on the baseball field.  He helped the Tigers to an 8th-district title as a freshman, leading the team in batting average (.467) and hits (42), with 30 RBI, 29 runs scored, and only 13 strikeouts in 90 at-bats.  On the mound, he posted a 2.82 ERA over 22.1 innings and struck out 37 batters.

After committing to the University of Kentucky in the offseason, Moss hit .316 as a sophomore, with a team-high four home runs and 25 RBI.  He scored 28 runs, had 24 hits, and posted a 2.82 ERA over 22 innings with 37 strikeouts.

He was named All-District and All-2nd Region in both campaigns.
