Jensen Castle has already had a fabulous career at Kentucky.

The senior golfer has led UK in scoring average the last two years and won the 2021 U.S. Women’s Amateur, something no Kentucky golfer had ever done before, that let her play in other major events.

Castle recently was named the Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Week after leading UK to back-to-back tournament championships and winning the first medalist honors of her collegiate career in the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational that had some of the nation’s best teams, including No. 1 Wake Forest and No. 8 Duke.

But even before Castle starts play in the spring season, there’s already good news for Kentucky golf — she’s coming back for a fifth season.

“I will graduate in December and start my MBA program in January,” she said. “I am doing a lot of things to prepare for my MBA program. But I definitely plan to come back for a fifth year.”

Kentucky’s fall season ended a bit earlier this year and Castle, who has battled some injuries, knows she might need to take a break even though the UK golfers push each other daily in practice.

“All my teammates are out there on off days pushing and grinding,” she said. “We compete against each other. We also have the option to play in other tournaments during the collegiate season. You can’t do it on the school’s dime (money) but if I want to play some tournaments the next few months I can do it.”

It doesn’t sound like Castle will take that tournament option.

“The spring season is so hard on you mentally and physically. I know in December it probably will be good for me to take a break and catch up with other things,” Castle said. “I don’t know if I want to play in December and get burnt out. It’s an option but I have to think about what is best for me physically.”
