He’s played in four exhibition games in the Bahamas and two exhibition games in Rupp Arena but freshman Chris Livingston gets to play in his first “real” game at Kentucky Monday night when the Cats host Howard.

Livingston says he’s definitely ready for that experience.

“Coach has been preparing me all summer with practice and especially these exhibition games and those games in the Bahamas. It is getting my feet wet and helping me learn throughout the whole process, so I am ready and am really excited to get the season going,” he said after Thursday’s exhibition win over Kentucky State.

Livingston and the Cats have had to adjust to not having some players in the lineup this preseason for various reasons but Livingston said their absence has helped other players see that they can do more.

“It really helps the people on the floor to do things right defensively, which is important because if you do not do what is right defensively then you get taken off the floor,” he said. “It helps us add to our depth and shows how deep our team is.”

Livingston played last year at Oak Hill Academy so he’s used to quality competition and high level workouts. However, he has been surprised by the depth of talent at Kentucky.

“Getting to learn the guys individually, how good they are, how skilled they are without the ball, how long we are, and how athletic we are defensively,” he said when asked about his biggest surprise at UK.

“We have guys that can be put a lot of places on the court which is definitely a benefit.”
