The Caldwell County Tiger basketball team saw its first action of the preseason Thursday night, hosting Mayfield for a scrimmage at the CAB gym.
The teams played five periods, with Mayfield taking three of those. The final total showed the Cardinals outscoring the Tigers 58-41, but Caldwell won the final stanza 20-9.
Mayfield opened the scrimmage by scoring the first 11 points and taking the first period 13-5. The Cardinals took the second frame 18-7.
Caldwell won the third period 4-2 but Mayfield came back to take the next frame 16-5.
Collin Whittington had 14 points for the Tigers while Carter Whittington had 12. Jack Englebright added six points and Ryan Hammett had five. Cannon Littlejohn and JayDarius Wilson scored two points each.
Caldwell heads to Calloway County on Saturday for its final preseason scrimmage, with action there set for noon.
Caldwell County’s guys tip off the regular season on Thursday, Dec. 1, with a home date against Muhlenberg County.
