After scoring a single point in the opening quarter and trailing by double digits for much of the first half in Friday’s matchup with visiting New Covenant Christian Academy, the Heritage Christian Academy girls basketball team saw a third-quarter rally fall short in a 41-25 setback.

Bailey Craft’s free throw was the lone point for the Lady Warriors, and they trailed 10-1 after the first quarter.  Rachel Robson’s pull-up jumper gave HCA its first field goal of the game, but New Covenant led 18-4 after a steal and layup by Ellie Etherton.

After the break, Craft scored five points to fuel a 7-1 run and pull the Lady Warriors to within six points at 19-13.  However, Evie Schroeder answered with five straight points to restore New Covenant’s double-digit cushion.

HCA closed to six points again late in the third quarter, but Schroeder knocked down a jumper in the final seconds for a 26-18 advantage with a quarter to play.

New Covenant put the game away with an 8-0 run to start the fourth, including six points in the paint from Cate Taylor.  A corner jumper by Mya Mason gave New Covenant its largest lead at 41-22 with just over two minutes left.
