The Heritage Christian Academy Lady Warriors are hoping for a bit more placidity this year, which will be their final one in the Kentucky Christian Athletic Association.

Darrell Crawford enters his second season as head coach. He was named the skipper of the Lady Warriors late in the preseason last year and guided HCA to a 6–17 record. That came as the Lady Warriors lost their leading scorer, Halle Zieg early in the season with a knee injury.

Zieg, a senior who earned KCAA All-State honors as a sophomore, can play all five positions for the Lady Warriors.

Also back for Heritage is senior Bailey Craft, who averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds in earning KCAA All-State honors a year ago.

The combination of injuries and sickness last year allowed Crawford to get several players extensive playing time which should benefit them this year. Junior Rachel Robson and senior Liana Carr both got floor time in the backcourt last year and give HCA the defensive presence they need.

Kate St. Martin was the second-leading scorer for Heritage as an eighth grader. With her ability to knock down the outside shot, she is poised to have a breakout freshman season.

“It’s fun watching the growth curve get better with this team and watching them get better,” Crawford said. “We’re shooting the ball better this year and looking to score more.”

Senior Anna Allard and junior Kylynn Tudor as well as freshman Kila Cherry should give Crawford some other options for scoring and rebounding.

Heritage has already played two games, winning its KCAA opener against Valor Christian. The Lasy Warriors went 1-7  against KHSAA competition a year ago. This will be the final season in the KCAA for HCA as they make the full-time move to the KHSAA next year.

“I just want them to compete. we’re playing more KHSAA teams and going to do our best in both the KCAA and KHSAA,” Crawford said.

The Lady Warriors will play at least 10 games against KHSAA competition, beginning with a road trip to Ballard Memorial Tuesday.
