After a difficult 2-22 season a year ago, the Fort Campbell boys’ basketball team returns with more experience and a new face at the helm when they open the regular season on Monday at Livingston Central.

Former Falcon assistant coach Jeff Cherry takes over on the sidelines for Robbie Townsend.  Townsend led the program for four seasons, including 2020-21 when the Falcons sat out due to Covid, and finished with a record of 16-64.

Cherry welcomes back seven players that were contributors to last season’s team, including senior Aiden Blaskowski, who led the Falcons in scoring with 13 points per game and 52 made three-pointers.

Fellow senior and multi-sport standout Amari Waddy returns after posting almost five points per game and leading the team with 6.8 rebounds per contest last year.  Another senior, guard Daniel Castro, can provide ball handling and outside shooting for the Falcons.

Juniors Maurice Moore, Dason Tate, and Xezavier Westbrook also return after playing significant minutes, and sophomore Dakevious Lewis will be asked to help with the scoring load after showing flashes as a freshman.

Coach Cherry also has the services of five players who weren’t on the roster a year ago.  Seniors Stephon Walker and Jalyel Welch, junior Yeramis Maysonet, sophomore John Arnold, and 8th-grader Lashaad Smiley will all be called on to contribute.

After getting the season started on Monday, the Falcons are off until December 6, when they travel to face Foundation Christian Academy.

Fort Campbell will end the year at the St. Mary Christmas Classic on December 17 and open the 2nd Region All “A” Classic against Dawson Springs on January 10, before heading to the Superman Classic in Metropolis, IL.

The Falcons will play their entire district schedule over the course of two weeks in late January and early February.
