The Fort Campbell Falcons very nearly pulled off a big comeback to win their opening game of the 2022-2023 basketball season. Livingston Central took a double-digit lead into the final quarter and then turned back a Falcon rally to claim a 61-55 win Monday night.

Cold shooting turned out to be the problem for the Falcons in the contest. Fort Campbell put up eight more shot attempts than did the Cardinals but hit seven less.

Livingston Central led 14-11 after one quarter and took a 27-21 lead into the locker room at the break.

The Cardinals would extend the lead to 45-32 going into the final quarter.

Behind the play of Maurice Moore and Dason Tate, the Falcons put up 23 points in the final eight minutes, but came up just short in their rally. The duo combined to score 16 points in the final quarter.

Tate led four Falcons in double figures with 16 points. Aidan Blaszkowski finished with 15. Maurice Moore scored 13. Daniel Castro was the other Falcon to hit double figures with 10.

The Cardinals were paced by Logan Wring with 28 points, twelve of them coming in the opening quarter. Drew Hosick was the other Cardinal in double figures with 18.

Fort Campbell (0-1) gets back to action December 6 when they travel to Foundation Christian.

Livingston Central (1-0) travels to Calloway County Tuesday night.
