Big Start Carries Lady Maroons Past Hoptown

The Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons opened fast and never looked back Tuesday night at Hopkinsville. Madisonville put up 29 points in the first quarter on the way to a 65-25 win over the Lady Tigers at Tiger Gym.

Four different Lady Maroon players scored at least five points in the opening quarter as Madisonville bolted out to a 29-7 lead. The lead grew to 47-11 at the half as the Lady Maroon defense allowed Hoptown just one field goal in the second quarter.

With the running clock in play, the second half played out quickly. The Lady Maroon defense was also the story in the third quarter as the Lady Tigers were held without a field goal and the lead grew to 58-14.

Reserves saw much of the time on the court for Madisonville in the final quarter as the game played out to the final 40-point margin.

Hopkinsville was led by Faith Dansbury with 10 points, 8 of those coming in the fourth quarter. Shiyah Forte added 7 and Kahtahvia Fleming finished with five.

Amari Lovan led three Lady Maroons in double-figures with 14. Emilee Hallum had 13, while Riley Sword chipped in with 11.

Hopkinsville drops to 0-2 with the loss. The Lady Tigers are back in action Monday when they travel to Webster County.

Madisonville (1-0) is back in action Friday when they take on Bowling Green in the Independence Bank Classic at Owensboro Catholic.
