A slow start was a bit too much for the Christian County Lady Colonels to overcome Friday night. Owensboro limited the Lady Colonels to just 11 first-half points as the Lady Red Devils picked up a 53-30 win in the Independence Bank Tip-Off Classic at Owensboro Catholic.
The Owensboro defense limited the Lady Colonels to just two field goals in the opening quarter and three more in the second. Meanwhile, at the other end of the court, the Lady Red Devils were able to build a 22-11 lead.
Christian County was able to generate a bit more offense in the second half but was not able to cut into the margin. The Owensboro lead would be 37-22 at the end of the third quarter.
From there, Owensboro would cruise on out to the 23 point win.
Anaysia Bagwell was the only Lady Colonel to reach double figures with 14 points. NeVaeh Day added seven points, eight rebounds, and seven blocks.
Owensboro was led by Alyrica Hughes, who finished the night with 23 points. C.J. Paige added 9 points.
Christian County falls to 0-2 with the loss. The Lady Colonels travel to Madisonville Tuesday.
Owensboro improves to 3-0 on the season.
